The paper has settled into a different pace, after a hectic fall and crazed pre-SXSW season. We're back in the rhythm of week-by-week, focusing on a scattering of special issues over the next few months including:

Summer Fun Issue May 19

Summer Reading Issue June 2

Annual Chronicle Beer Tasting June 30

Short Story Contest Winners July 14

The deadline for the short story contest has passed, we received over 400 short stories; everywhere, judges are busy reading. The issue, as noted above, will be published in July. There will be an awards presentation on July 16, with the winning stories being read. Next issue, we will begin running the Best of Austin ballot. The Best of Austin issue, offering our favorites and yours, will be published August 4. There is also all the usual stuff with more planned and being planned, but these are some of the bigger issue.

The Chronicle is undergoing a redesign process that may well last forever. We've redesigned the staff box and the table of contents to make them more accessible. Expect this change to continue. We mentioned it then, but a couple of months back longtime art director Ben Davis moved on. New art director Diana DeFrancesco, aided by assistant art director Ben Plimpton, has not only filled Davis' impressive shoes but showed us all a few new steps.
