Shock the Vote ATX presents Shock Sound Series w/ Jaimee Harris, BettySoo, Bonnie Whitmore

On Nov. 4, 1980, some petty North American republic elected a chimpanzee named Bonzo (neé Peggy) as its oligarch, which began the nation’s downfall and eventual eradication. One 15-year-old on the disintegrating empire’s West Coast put his head down on the desk and wept. A month later they assassinated John Lennon. Four decades on, Shock the Vote steps forward with the local Shock Sound Series, which fundraises for Austin Creative Alliance, Austin Justice Coalition, Between the Pages, Out Youth, the Safe Alliance, and Texas Appleseed. All three performers, Whitmore (7:30), Soo (8:00), and Harris (8:30), represent modern progressive voices couched in melody, composition, and compassion. Don’t let what happened in Freedonia happen to your country; fucking VOTE.

    The Vortex Odyssey: Underground

We've told you all about this fundraising extravaganza of theatrical diversion from that myth-aligned Vortex company of artists and raconteurs, and this listing is so you'll know it's still happening. This Underground section – a virtual, livestreamed evocation of the underworld of gods and such that the ancient Greek hero Odysseus had to deal with, but updated with modern concerns – is an accompaniment to the aboveground Odyssey spectacle that you'll actually drive your car through. This online-only portion is riddled with can-you-solve-it puzzles, animations, and interactive performances –featuring appearances by the likes of sexologist Annie Sprinkle, commedia dell’arte troupe La Fenice, the improv savants Parallelogramophonograph, and more.

Women & Their Work: Mask Auction

First, let's note that they're calling this fundraising show "Cover Art," which, ha-ha, we love that. And then we'll go on to exclaim, holy shit! Have you seen the lineup of artists who've made these masks? Dawn Okoro. Laura Lit. Alyssa Taylor Wendt. John Mulvany. Beili Liu. Virginia Fleck. Denise Prince. Briar Bonifacio. Yuliya Lanina. And – ah, there's at least 60 more after that. Listen: "Although not all of the masks are wearable, they are all works of art. Whether you hang it on your wall or put it on your face, you will have a unique work that shows your support. Every dollar we raise through the Cover Art mask auction will go directly to our building fund." Note: The bidding's already begun, citizen!
