Café Tacvba, Flor de Toloache

One of Mexico’s premier alternative rock bands, Cafe Tacvba only employs rock as a foundational blueprint to then add flourishes of folk, ska, and hip-hop as means of experimentation while still retaining their roots of Norteño, bolero, and ranchera. Expansive Re (1994), lush electronica on Reves/Yo Soy (1999), post-punk nostalgia in Cuatro Caminos (2003), and this year’s typically synth-rock simmer Jei Beibi span a cross-section of genres in boundless reinvention. Twenty-five celebrated years includes multiple Latin Grammys and a Grammy. – Alejandra Ramirez
