The Kerrville Folk Festival kicks off this week. That means a few out-of-town acts stop by the big city before heading “home.” Among them you’ll find Santa Fe’s Bill Hearne, who started out in Austin in the late Sixties. Always an interpreter, never a writer, his recent disc A Good Ride features his dulcet tenor rendering Gordon Lightfoot, Hoyt Axton, and Delbert McClinton with sometimes colorful, other times pensive results. In person, he’s as pure as today’s Americana can be allowed. – Jim Caligiuri
