George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Dam Funk

The chocolate chariot swings down this weekend as George Clinton presides over Empire’s two-night, four-year Funkiversary. The 76-year-old Dr. Funkenstein still tears the roof off the sucka with marathon sessions of uncut P-funk and an army of help. Also getting up for the downstroke: Cali boogie ambassador Dâm-Funk plus locals D Madness, Foot Patrol, Hard Proof, Jackie Venson, Alesia Lani, and more.

    Pocket Fishrmen Record Release

Austin underground institution Pocket Fishrmen has executed a precise blend of punk rock drive, left-wing politics, arena rock dynamics, weirdo Austin freakism, and wink-and-grin satire for 30 years now. Thirty-song anthology The Greatest Story Ever Told drops at the very venue where they initially knit all those threads.

Golden Boys, Nick Allison & the Players Lounge

Like 2012 masterstroke Dirty Fingernails, follow-up Better Than Good Times spins like a lesser band’s greatest hits. Four songwriters, statistically led by singer/guitarist Matt Hoopengardner, specialize in effortless anthems manically incorporating garage, heartland punk, country, and AM pop. “Kick the Can” sounds like Cat Stevens had he converted to Lone Star beer instead of Islam.
