Austin Reggae Festival w/ Wailers, Sister Nancy, I-taweh, Mau Mau Chaplains, Lion Heights, Matamoska!
This annual springtime sun splash now celebrates a quarter-century as Austin’s premier riddim-generating, dance-inducing, people-watching, Jah-praising, life-affirming extravaganza. Synced to 4/20, the festival guarantees requisite irie vibes, particularly this year’s strong and varied lineup of legends, up-and-coming youngbloods, and the best of Austin’s genre talent.: No band on the planet plays Bob Marley’s music with more authenticity, passion, and love than his band the Wailers, who headline Sunday evening. Anchored by esteemed bass master and Marley musical director Aston “Familyman” Barrett and boasting late-era guitarists Junior Marvin and Donald Kinsey, this is the band’s most formidable lineup in years and they’ll be playing all your Marley favorites.: Dancehall queen Sister Nancy will also be in the house on Sunday. Her monstrous hit “Bam Bam” has influenced generations of female artists. She’ll be backed by Austin’s Lion Heights, who also play their own set.: Throughout the weekend, locals DJ RJ and Jah Ray spin vinyl early and between sets. Festival sponsor the Flamingo Cantina also features many of the headliners in a more intimate setting on Sixth.
