  • Laundry & Bourbon with Lonestar

Laundry and Bourbon with Lonestar, two companion one act plays set in backyards of a small Texas town. Three ladies come together to talk about their life's ups and downs. Lonestar follows the life of three small town boys and the events that have shaped them. Both shows give us highs & lows with humor spread around, for good measure.

    Vieux Farka Toure

Days prior to ACL Fest, the single most notable international act sneaks into Austin under the cover of Empire’s tent. Scion of Malian guitar god Ali Farka Touré (1939–2006), Niafunké native Vieux Farka Touré, 36, blazes where the elder burned. AFT garnered comparisons to John Lee Hooker, but VFT nets Hendrix nods for his scorching, chromatic drone. New disc Samba decrees dance or (com)bust.

    Father John Misty

As Father John Misty, Josh Tillman croons disdain for our modern experience while sucking its marrow. Balladeer of the existentially bored and prophet of oblivious profligacy, his third LP Pure Comedy hones a perfect pop pastiche between apocalyptic visions and self-flagellating confession. Prepare for a tightrope walk between sincerity and snark. Psych-folk chanteuse Weyes Blood opens an added second show.

Terror Fest presents the Obsessed, Iron Tongue, Duel, Salo

When Scott “Wino” Weinrich’s Seventies doom specters materialized at Come & Take It Live in May, the former Bay Area, now-Maryland trio rumbled its fourth LP and first in 23 years, Sacred. Now arrives a deluxe reissue of the band’s eponymous 1990 debut, an uncanny slice of Black Sabbath buttressed by a rare era EP and raw live set from five years earlier that could be the last word on the Obsessed.
