Given her renown for interpreting countryman Kurt Weill, perhaps a rockist like myself can be forgiven for thinking Ute Lemper as musical theatre’s Nick Cave. The West German cabaret great, seasoned actress (Prêt-à-Porter), and occasional indie rock crossover – on 2000’s Punishing Kiss she covers Cave, Waits, and Costello – comes by her drama more vocationally but no less nail-you-to-your-seat. Here, her Last Tango in Berlin tour covers Astor Piazzolla, Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, and Weill.
