Tillie Walden: Spinning

The Austin-based creator of this autobiographical, coming-of-age, coming-out, leaving-the-goddamn-ice-rink graphic novel will sign copies of the gorgeous tome and indulge a little Q&A for tonight's reception at AB&C. The author of previous books A City Inside, I Love This Part, and The End of Summer, Walden can't possibly be the reincarnation of Adrian Tomine or Alison Bechdel because, thankfully, those worthies aren't even dead yet; but that's the level of craft and consideration we're looking at here, what's driving the evocative power of her writing and drawing, and we reckon you'd be wise (and will be delighted) to heed whatever this pen-and-ink powerhouse adds to the world's array of sequential art.
