    Media Chica

    Do you have a young writer at home? Someone who loves to report on the stories around the world? Sign them up for Media Chica, Latinitas' free weekly journalism workshop. Girls will have the opportunity to become digital producers, learn from professionals in the field, and enhance their writing skills. Open to eighth- to 12th-grade girls.
    Saturdays, Sept. 5-Oct. 17. Free.

    Participate in Viva México: Kids' Art Contest

    A visual arts contest for kids to create original works of art to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. Children ages 5-12 submit photos of their artwork, and images will be posted on the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center's Facebook and Instagram pages Sept. 12-18 and will be highlighted during the MACC's 16 de Septiembre event. Winners will be selected based on the number of likes they receive and will be sent a prize package of arts supplies and MACC swag. Winners announced Sept. 20.

    AISD Meal Service

    Through Sept. 4, any child under the age of 19 may receive one breakfast and one lunch meal daily from Austin ISD, Monday-Thursday, with Fridays as the weekend meal distribution day. No application or identification is needed; children can simply show up at any participating site to receive a healthy meal. AISD has lots more information online about resources for those in need of food, and if you'd like to help, donate to Austin Ed Fund.

    Create Away Afterschool Program

    Dougherty Arts Center's afterschool program is held over Zoom so students ages 5-12 can connect with others, socialize with peers, and flex their creative skills under the guidance of arts instructors.

    PEAS Summer Adventure Lab

    Nature-based learning from the comfort of home. PEAS staff will guide students through virtual indoor/outdoor learning experiences, including energizing activities to get your children moving, crafts to deepen their scientific understanding, opportunities to connect with nature and others, and mindfulness practices to wind down.
    Tue.-Thu., Sept. 1-3. $60.
