Who's Your Caddy?

Hip-hop culture invades the golf course in Who’s Your Caddy?, much the way Rodney Dangerfield and an anarchic gopher did in Caddyshack with one major exception: Who’s Your Caddy? is instantly disposable. Okay, maybe two differences: It’s not terribly funny, either. Most of the comedy is the sort that derives from racial contrasts, pitting savvy black characters against idiotic white folk. If not for stereotypes, Who’s Your Caddy? would have no characters at all. Big Boi (one-half of the music group OutKast) stars as hip-hop mogul C-Note, whose desire to join the Carolina Pines golf club is fueled by his secret wish to reveal his father, a former caddy there, as the course’s best-scoring player – a record that has been whitewashed by the club president, Cummings (Jones, best known as the principal in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, here playing another of his patented head boob-in-charge roles). C-Note wants a membership in order to “stick it to the man,” but most of his protest consists of provocative things like Hummer golf carts and loud farting on the greens. Big Boi has enough screen presence to carry the lead, although his posse (Shepherd, Love, Mitchell, and Tatum) is given ample time to cut up and pass gas. MTV junior celeb Milonakis is cast as the son of Cummings, whom the posse turns from milquetoast nerd into a booty-slapping playa. Jones plays the love interest, while veteran Lewis turns up as C-Note’s fried-chicken-cooking mom. Morris has one odd, extraneous scene as a the Rev. J.J. Jackson, while The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’s Avery has a couple moments of screen time as a caddy. There’s also an ill-developed subplot that involves Cox as a hit man. When the final scorecard is tallied, Who’s Your Caddy? must be counted as a forfeit.
