Popeye

Popeye

1980, PG, 114 min. Directed by Robert Altman. Starring Robin Williams, Shelley Duvall, Ray Walston, Paul Dooley, Paul L. Smith.

REVIEWED By Marjorie Baumgarten, Mon., Nov. 25, 2002

Critically drubbed at the time of its release, Altman's Popeye is faithful to the spirit of the old comic strip and animated cartoons. Robin Williams plays the mumbling sailor and what human being is more suited to play Olive Oyl than Shelley Duvall? Altman's film features fantastic art direction, and is also a musical.
