Black Sheep

Rated PG-13, 86 min. Directed by Penelope Spheeris. Starring Christine Ebersole, Tim Matheson, David Spade, Chris Farley.

Not reviewed at press time. How quickly can they turn these things out? Didn't Farley and Spade just a few weeks ago break new cinematic wind with their Tommy Boy comedy? I'd think I was imagining things if I hadn't heard Spade joke on his “Spade in America” segment on SNL in December: “I've been in four movies this year. I dare you to name one of them.” Here, Spade plays a gubernatorial campaign worker whose job it is to babysit black-sheep goofball Farley, whose big brother is running for office. Director Spheeris is an old hand at this kind of stuff and, in fact, lately seems to be waging a one-person campaign to turn every TV sketch known to humanity into a feature-length movie (The Little Rascals, The Beverly Hillbillies, Wayne's World). The only thing that surprises me here is that Roger Clinton isn't signed up for a cameo.
