Governor's Community Achievement Awards
The GCAA program has recognized outstanding communities since 1969, with the Texas Department of Transportation providing landscaping award funding since 1985. This year, ten winning communities will share $2 million in landscaping awards from TxDOT, with the amount based on population size. Lifeguarding in Austin
It may be freezing at the moment, but soon enough the city's pools will be struggling to staff up for warmer weather. The parks department is actively recruiting and training candidates age 15 and up, and they emphasize that minimum wage is now $20 per hour, lifeguards get free training and a free uniform, and there's a $400 training stipend for staff who complete a certain number of work hours during the swim season.
