Beyond Zorba: Enthousiasmos!
Cellist Nora Karakousoglou presents “Beyond Zorba the Greek: Innovation in Greek Music in the Twentieth Century," for which listeners will be guided through works for solo cello and for cello and piano by Nikos Skalkottas, Solon Michailidis, and Giorgos Kasassoglou, among others, the pieces used to outline the evolution of Greek art music during the twentieth century.Sun., Sept. 23, 3pm. $20. -

Alegría: The Spanish Renaissance
The ensaladas of this concert are a treat for the ears and the spirit, but have nothing to do with the delectable edible; these musical treats are filled with drama, Biblical quotations, exhortations, lovely melodies, and much humor. But Daniel Johnson and his company of period-instrument masters – with a full complement of vocal brilliants, and featured countertenor Ryland Angel – also explore some of the polyphonic sacred music from the cathedrals and monasteries of 16th-century Spain.Sept. 22-23.
