The Contemporary Austin: John Bock + Wangechi Mutu

Bock's Dead + Juicy exhibition centers around a newly commissioned film that was shot in and around Austin, blending classic Westerns and dark comedy with spooky thriller and horror aesthetics. Mutu offers a new, site-specific edition of Throw, 2017, a painting created by the artist throwing black paper pulp against the wall, resulting in an abstract composition that dries, hardens, and then degrades over time.
    Through Jan. 14

    Art.Science.Gallery.: Trading Card Show

If you like art inspired by science, you'll love this. If you like trading cards, you'll love this. If you like both of those things at once, you may be overwhelmed with joy at this fifth annual fundraising event featuring hundreds of original, affordable, miniature works of science-celebrating art by artists from all over the country. That's right, 2.5-by-3.5-inch works of art, already framed for your convenience, waiting for a home on your wall or – hey, it's that time of year – the wall of a lucky friend or friends. Note: The show's up through Christmas Eve, but the opening reception is where you want to be, to get there early and have first pick among the offerings.
    Reception: Sat., Dec. 2, 7-10pm. $10.
