There are few locations that inspire such fear and loathing in a college freshman as the University Co-Op. The infamous textbook lines have been ranked right up there with the DMV and the post office but, unlike those places, the Co-Op has always had a reputation for hiring friendly employees. No one, however, is friendlier than Virginia Flowers - Itto to her friends - who has greeted the shoppers at the doors of the University Co-Op for almost a decade now. On a street where smiles are often returned with sneers, Ms. Flowers' warm welcome is as comforting as milk and chocolate chip cookies. Even college students (come to think of it: especially college students) depend on the kindness of strangers, and we thank Ms. Flowers (and the enduring Co-Op) for making sure the Drag doesn't become just that.
