In thinking about the 2015 West Austin Studio Tour, running May 9-17, I flashed on Mary Cassatt – not because the beloved American impressionist has any artwork showing in WEST, but because the first Sunday of this year's event coincides with Mother's Day, and Cassatt lives right there at the intersection of art and motherhood. Though she had no children herself, she made depictions of young children with their mothers her major subject for more than half of her career, and that led me to wonder if there are participants in this year's WEST whose work is informed by motherhood. To find out, I dispatched three Chronicle arts writers to find out. Here are four of their discoveries. (For more information about WEST, visit www.westaustinstudiotour.com.)
