Pay your respects to the late Boyd Vance, June means green for the Paramount and State, and six Austinites are officially 'New American Talent'

• This weekend offers a couple of ways to pay your respects to the late Boyd Vance. ProArts Collective, the company he founded and ran until his untimely death in April, is completing its two-week run of August Wilson's King Hedley II at the State Theater, 719 Congress. Check out one of its final performances Thursday-Saturday, 8pm, or Sunday, 2pm. For more information, call 474-TIXS or visit www.proarts.info. Then, at 8pm on Sunday, June 19, Austin Babtist Women will present a variety show to benefit ProArts at the Rainbow Cattle Company, 305 W. Fifth. Daddy Dearest III: Hubba Hubba will feature Austin doo-wop group Flamin' Desire, the drag antics of Galveston's CC Ryder, SheGottaMustache from Dallas, and cast members from the Zachary Scott Theatre Center's Hank Williams: Lost Highway.

The Paramount and State theatres are a little more flush this month. The Paramount's Hometown Heroes benefit show starring Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Jimmy LaFave, and Marion Winik, among others, took in $171,000 on June 5. Two days after that, Austin's two Whole Foods Market stores devoted 5% of shopping revenue generated at the stores to the State and Paramount, resulting in a donation of $12,818.50 to the theatres for programming and cultural outreach. • Congratulations to the six Austin artists in "New American Talent: The 20th Exhibition," opening this weekend at Arthouse. Samantha Krukowski, Leah Markov-Lindsey, Jonathan Marshall, Denise Prince Martin, Adam Schreiber, and Karen Skloss all have pieces in the 2005 edition of this annual juried look at work by emerging visual artists from across the country. You can hear "New American Talent" juror Dan Cameron (senior curator at large, New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York) speak in the slide show Moving Target: A Downtown Museum in the Global Age Saturday, June 18, 3pm, at the Jones Center, 700 Congress. For more information, call 453-5312 or visit www.arthousetexas.org.
