Youth Theatre Programs In Brief

Summer Youth Theatre (VORTEX Repertory Company): Free theatre training for teens with theatre professionals. Participants work on a full stage production with public performances. Some local artists receive stipends. Admission by audition. Produced The Insect Comedy in July. 478-LAVA.

Capitol City Playhouse Apprentice Company: Free theatre training and hands-on experience in professional productions and administration for upper-level high school/early college-age students. Entrance by interview. Presented Guinness Isa Respectable Brew earlier this month. 472-3234.

Texas Young Playwrights Festival: Evaluation and development of scripts by Texans under 19. All entries are evaluated. Twenty scripts are given intensive workshops; 12 receive staged readings at UT; three to five are produced at CCP. Deadline for the 1996 Festival is Dec. The 1995 winners are being presented through Aug 19 at CCP and will tour area high schools this fall. 472-3234.

Talk Theatre: Ongoing theatre development process at Johnston High School for high school students. Participants write dramatic material, which they present to the public. Talk Theatre will be showcased in a national teleconference on role-playing in education on November 4. 369-6541.

The Girl Project: Creation of an original theatrical production by young women, ages 9-17. Participants develop dramatic material with theatre professionals. Presented in coordination with the YWCA. Admission by audition. Small stipend provided to chosen actors ages 9-13. This year's presentation will be at the Zachary Scott Theatre Center Aug 21 & 22. 322-0125.
