The second annual Austin Classico soccer tourney is coming up Saturday, Jan. 30. As part of Soccer Resort's national 7v7 tournament series, local coed, men's, women's, and over-30/40 teams can compete against teams coming in from around the country and Canada. Sign up as a team – or as a single player and they'll match you with a team – at www.soccerresort.com.

It was an American sweep on the women's side of FIFA's Ballon d'Or awards in Zurich on Monday. Carli Lloyd, who captained the USA to the 2015 Women's World Cup title, was named the FIFA women's World Player of the Year, and USA coach Jill Ellis was named World Coach of the Year – the first American to win that honor. On the men's side, Lionel Messi won his fifth Ballon d'Or as the best player in the world.

European leagues are back in action with some key midweek games in England stretching out the bunch at the top of the Premier League standings.
