Soccer Watch

Another strong performance from the Austin Aztex earned them a hard-fought 2-1 comeback win over Midland-Odessa on Saturday, on Chuy Cortes' goal late in extra time. The Aztex are now 4-0 – the best record in the 64-team Premier Development League. They're on the road this week, with a Thursday/Saturday double-header at the second-place Mississippi Brilla, before returning home to host the Laredo Heat Saturday, June 14.

Just before that, the Aztex will be making public appearances on the opening two days of the World Cup: Thursday, June 12 at the Fadó opening party (Brazil-Croatia, 3pm), and Friday the 13th at Bar 96 (Chile-Australia, 5pm), at a World Cup Kickoff party hosted by Austin FC, the "Bring Major League Soccer to Austin" group I've written about here before... The Aztex are also encouraging fans to watch the England-Italy game – one of the premier draws of the first weekend – at the Tavern Saturday evening: It's at 5pm, ending just in time for that Laredo Heat game at House Park.
