The UT Longhorns (9-4-1) host nationally ranked Baylor Friday night (7pm Friday, Oct. 11, at Mike Myers Stadium), in the next-to-last home game of the season. Under second-year coach Angela Kelly, this young squad has developed into the best Horns team in several years, despite starting just one senior. The home finale will be against Oklahoma at 1pm Sun., Oct. 20.... The St. Edward's men (6-1-1) rose to seventh in the nation in this week's Division II rankings; they and the Hilltopper women are both on the road this weekend.
World Cup qualifying resumes this Friday, Oct. 11, with a TV bonanza for cable TV subscribers. The USA, already qualified for next year's tournament in Brazil, hosts Jamaica (5:30pm, ESPN), while England-Montenegro (2pm, Fox Sports 1 and Fox Deportes) and Mexico-Panama (8:30pm, ESPN News and Unimas) highlight a schedule that spans four continents, and some 12 English- and Spanish-language networks. That Mexico game should be particularly interesting, as El Tri – winless in four home games thus far, and losers to Panama in their last two meetings – likely need a win to keep their hopes alive. Tuesday, Oct. 15 brings another full slate of games, including England-Poland (2pm, FS1), France-Finland (3pm, ESPN2), and Costa Rica-Mexico and Panama-USA (both 8:30pm, only on Al-Jazeera networks).
