Longhorns split a pair and host Texas Invitational

The Texas Longhorns split another pair last weekend, losing to North Carolina State, 1-0, before dominating Toledo, 3-0. This weekend, the Horns host New Mexico, SMU, and 10th-ranked Virginia in the Texas Invitational: two doubleheaders, Friday and Sunday, Aug. 31 and Sept. 2. Friday evening it's SMU vs. New Mexico at 5pm, UT vs. Virginia at 7:30pm; Sunday is SMU vs. Virginia at 11am, UT vs. New Mexico at 1:30pm. Labor Day special: $4 for either day; $5 for both; order by 5pm Friday at www.texassports.com... Senior Kristin Cummins has scored the winning goal in each of Texas' three victories thus far... Remember, all home games are shown live on the Longhorn Network, plus the next game, Thursday, Sept. 6, at BYU, will be shown nationwide at 8pm as the NSCAA Game of the Week on Fox Soccer.
In the U-20 Women's World Cup, the U.S. advanced to the quarterfinals despite losing their final group stage game to Germany, 3-0; they face North Korea this Friday, Aug. 31, 5:20am. The winner takes on the Nigeria vs. Mexico winner in a semifinal at Tuesday, 2am, with the final Saturday, Sept. 8, 5:20am (all live on ESPNU and streamed on ESPN3).
European Champions League qualifying play finished this week; the group stage draw will take place Friday... The CONCACAF Champions League group stage continued this midweek, and will run through October, with MLS teams thus far holding their own... World Cup qualifying resumes Friday, Sept. 7, and Tuesday, Sept. 11, with a full schedule of 73 games across five continents, including a home-and-away between the U.S. and Jamaica... The St. Edward's men and women open their seasons this week on the road.
