Decoding Deepak

Headliners
D: Gotham Chopra

Beware when sons point movie cameras at their famous dads. Especially when Dad happens to be Deepak Chopra, the bestselling author of 65 books and the mind-body-spirit guru to everyone from the late Michael Jackson to Lady Gaga – even hailed by Mikhail Gorbachev. Gotham Chopra set off for a year of reflective quality time with his dad, starting with a stop-off in Bangkok, Thailand, where Deepak was to be ordained as a Buddhist priest. Will anyone be surprised to learn that even Ayurvedic gurus have feet of clay – or strong attachments to their BlackBerries, five-star hotels, and Starbucks? Or that Dad was not the greatest, most attentive of fathers? Always the reveal in this genre of softcore Daddy Dearest films is the inevitable affection deficit lurking in the family history – even with the New Age dad who should have known better. Luckily, Gotham is a nice, understanding guy who doesn't carry a grudge.
