Please Cover Light Rail

RECEIVED Tue., Sept. 24, 2013

Dear Editor,
We are headed for a disastrous bond election defeat, and the final nail in the coffin for light rail in Austin, if we allow City Council to ram this ridiculous Mueller route proposal down our throats.
Possibly the only alignment that stands any chance of winning a citywide bond election is North Lamar/Guadalupe. It has all of the advantages: population, employment centers, highest Capital Metro ridership, future growth projections, development opportunities, and it runs right through the heart of our city.
Yet city government is trying to kill any chance of a light rail on North Lamar and Guadalupe by limiting public input and claiming that the new fake "bus rapid transit" being implemented there precludes a light rail in that corridor.
Decision time is a few months away and the Chronicle has been asleep at the wheel. Please bring some public awareness to this issue before it's too late.
