Dear Editor,
    Political prognostication: Hear ye, hear ye, all ye Texas working-class voters who thought that voting Republican would benefit your everyday lives. Yes, you might pay lower taxes, but what is left in your public treasury will not be used to pay for “socialist” programs that you rely upon, such as public roads (think toll roads privately managed) and pension plans (they will be raided to fill the deep pockets of the corporate elite who bought this election). As long as Republicans manage the people's state treasury, it will effectively be handed over to the corporate elitists who bought this election and intend to run our government for their primary benefit.
    The evil “socialism” you voted against is essentially the use of the public treasury for the benefit of the commonwealth. When those that govern are the corporate elite, the treasury is used primarily for their benefit. I hope that this is what you truly understood when voting at the polls. The era of government for the people has now become the era of government for the chosen people, aka fascism.

    Re: Joe Zamecki's letter [“Postmarks,” Oct. 29]: Joe’s letter is excellent and truthful. I agree that adding the phrase “one state under God” violates the U.S. Constitution and that a particular religion should not be pushed onto government and all its citizens. I also believe that the Ten Commandments monument on the Texas Capitol grounds is unconstitutional and unethical. And it is elitist with its statement, “I am the Lord thy God; thou shalt have no other God before me.” That 6-foot granite monument is blocking the political and social progress this country desperately needs. And another thing: I can’t believe how many people still believe in the mythical stories of the Old Testament!

    Has anybody else gotten cussed at while passing a bicycle rider lately? I've noticed more and more that bicyclists are riding in the middle of a car lane – I've got no problem with this usually, but when you pass them, they cuss at you. Can somebody educate me on what is goin' on? I bicycle all over the place but have just noticed this lately … weird. Now we've got bicycle road rage? You can't pass a bicycle?

Dear Editor,
    Ohio Rep. John Boehner says Republicans will not compromise on the will of the American people. But that is exactly what they have been doing since President Obama was elected, stubbornly obstructing the will of the majority of voters. The transparent contradiction, dishonesty, irrationality, and hypocrisy is astounding.
