Here's a partial list of the daylong activities at Barton Springs Pool and Barton Creek on Aug. 7 and 8. Check www.sosalliance.org for updates.

Tuesday, Aug. 7

On Barton Creek: Hike, swim, and snorkel the upper Greenbelt. Meet at the Scottish Woods Trail access. BYO snorkel and drinking water. 8:30-11am. Email sosinfo@sosalliance.org to reserve space.

Barton Springs, South Gate area outside pool: Watermelon, refreshments, maps, charts, photos, and other exhibits on the natural, cultural, and political history of Barton Springs and the SOS movement. 5-8pm.

Barton Springs, South Hill, inside pool: Remarks from SOS Coalition members and a range of local voices. 5:30-5:45pm.

Minor Mishap Marching Band, followed by acoustic set by local musicians. 6:15pm.

Screenings of Dean Rindy's 1992 documentary on Barton Creek, Karen Kocher's 1993 documentary, Common Ground, the Battle for Barton Springs, and the Living Springs trailer. 8:30-9:45pm.

Barton Springs, South Gate area outside pool:

An introduction to the Edwards Aquifer Ecosys­tem, by conservation biologist Tom Hayes, and hydrogeologist Raymond Slade. Noon.

The seeds of the SOS initiative and what it means today, by Brigid Shea and Mary Arnold of the SOS Coalition Steering Committee. 1pm.

Past and present politics of Barton Springs, by SOS campaign leaders Mark Yznaga and David Butts. 2pm.

Philosopher's Rock: What J. Frank Dobie, Roy Bedichek, and Walter Prescott Webb mean to Austin past, present, and future, by Bill Bunch. 3pm.

"The Four Fountain Springs" of Texas and their role in pre-Columbian and contemporary indigenous cultures, by Gary Perez of the Native American Church and the Indigenous Cultures Institute of San Marcos. 4pm.

Group plunge in Barton Springs. 5pm.
