NaviSite in a Nutshell

A capsule description of NaviSite Inc.

What is it?: A firm that hosts Web sites for various companies

For how long?: Parent company CMGI, an Internet holding company, founded NaviSite in 1996.

Headquarters: Andover, Mass.

Stakeholders: CMGI is a majority owner; Microsoft has a minority stake.

Austin connection: NaviSite closed its Austin office early last year.

Current state: Hanging on by its fingernails. NaviSite was steps away from death's door as recently as last fall but won a reprieve in October with a $65 million lifeline (including $30 million in cash) from CMGI and Compaq Computer Corp.

Stock: In May 2000, it traded at a high of more than $164 per share. Last week's high was 34 cents.
