Animal Dreams

Drum rolls and guitar jangles open "She's Got What I Need," the first track off Peckinpah's debut EP, Animal Dreams, and for 30 seconds, the band threatens normality. Cue singer Jason Russel Waller, who then yelps and croons atop New Wave synths and expert gang vocals. The Austin quartet dabbles in several other genres across the five-song effort, from the clamoring punk of "Kiss the Torch," to the rollicking 12-bar blues of "Suicide Bomber for Your Love," Waller's dynamic singing refusing brakes on the 20-minute thrill ride.
