Answer Code Request
Code (Osgut ton)

Berlin techno has become too clean for comfort. The city absorbs styles like Manifest Destiny melts ethnicities, churning fragments until nothing exists but bleached teeth. Answer Code Request's first LP lacquers another unblemished Berlin affair, the cleanliness of Code scuttling with a fecund attention to detail. If the German capital is to contemporary techno what orthodontics are to teeth, Code wafts the airy nausea after a root canal. As ACR, Patrick Gräser contorts across the genre's flux, sporing like lichen against uninhabited perimeters of form. ACR outlines cell walls of amoeba only to vacuum the mass at the core. A chilling weightlessness persists throughout, with translucent tones ping-ponging across crescent borders. Unlike previous 12-inches, Code allows the barren room to echo out. Opening with a hats-off intro to Detroit techno, à la astronaut samples and rich Kepler keys, the mélange percolates with focused intensity. "Odyssey Sequence" creeps by, while "Blue Russian" drizzles with drum 'n' bass swagger. Laboratory techno gurgles pathogens on "Status," and "By the Bay" floats an IDM glider. On second thought, Berlin still holds clout.
