Blitzkid Bop: Austin Kiddie Limits
By Adam Schragin, Fri., Oct. 12, 2012
Hullabaloo
Fri., 11:30am; Sat., 2:30pm
San Diegans Steve Denyes and Brendan Kremer met in elementary school, and fittingly that's where the duo cull most of their fans as Hullabaloo, an acoustic project that aims to bridge kids rock with its parental equivalent.
Rocknoceros
Fri., 12:30pm; Sat., 11:30am
These D.C. kids-music mainstays bring their folk tunes to Austin, a city they're well familiar with via 2009 single "Texas" ("Their barbecue will hit you in the solar plexus").
Orange Sherbert
Fri., 2:30pm; Sat., 1:30pm
Likely the jazziest of Austin Kiddie Limits performers, husband and wife duo Jill and Steve Pierce make swinging odes to the seasons and, like their namesake, all things delicious and (mostly) nutritious.
Big Don
Fri., 1:30pm; Sun., 11:30am
Local Don Robinson schools us with instructional, feel-good tracks like "At the Zoo" and "Run, Walk, Play" from this year's Big Don's Brand New Beat.
Ralph Covert
Fri., 3:30pm; Sun., 4:05pm
When not ripping it in the Bad Examples, Chicago's Ralph Covert has led his group Ralph's World into Grammy-nominated territory over the course of eight albums and a nation-spanning House of Blues tour.
Jambo
Sat., 12:30pm; Sun., 12:30pm
Roots music for kids isn't so far-fetched, especially if it's made with a healthy dollop of kazoo and songs about dogs and feet.
The School of Rock
Sun., 2:30pm
Austin's School of Rock franchise educates students on the finer points of rocking faces off, and its AllStars are the students most likely to kick (gr)ass and take names five years from now.
The Q-Brothers
Sun., 1:30pm
This clean-mouthed hip-hop group aims at getting you to shake it to Shakespeare, infusing beats with the best of the Bard.
Peter DiStefano & Tor
Sun., 3:15pm
Former Porno For Pyros guitarist DiStefano takes an unlatched approach to performing with producer/songwriter Tor Hyams by avoiding practices and embracing spontaneity, all to freewheeling but decidedly stage-ready results.
