Our Little Planet (CRS)

Tish Hinojosa's career traces a genuine hybrid of Texas music beyond a hyphenated description like Tex-Mex-roots. The gentle country-folk of Our Little Planet is a departure from her usual Latin-flavored recordings, though she keeps a couple of bilingual tracks ("Our Little Planet" and "Mi Pueblo," also featuring Carrie Rodriguez) that blend seamlessly. Most of the songs come from her 1980s Nashville years, dusted off and shined to a polish. Longtime collaborator and co-producer Marvin Dykhuis adds his musical expertise, as do duet partners Dale Watson ("Count Me In") and Rosie Flores ("We Mostly Feel That Way"). Hinojosa's been off the studio radar for a while, spending most of her time in Germany, but Planet is like running into an old friend at the convenience store and driving away with her number, knowing you'll stay in touch.
