Brent Fariss & Bill Thompson

August – September (Spectral House)

No one listens to audio experiments like this for fun. It's a learned appreciation for the manipulation of sound. On that level, Fariss and Thompson do some interesting things during these two 20-plus minute tracks. "August" climaxes 90 seconds in with swift contrabass strokes before canceling itself out and starting anew. "September" scatters sound with more traditional movement, resulting in a final wave of white noise. **.5
