Marah

Sooner or Later in Spain (Yep Roc)

Skeptical about Marah being one of the best live bands in the world? This DVD/CD set offers weighty proof. This two-hour performance recorded in late 2005 in Spain is a few notches above bootleg quality with bobbing audience heads obscuring the quintet and the sound less than crystalline. Still, Philly's finest frolic and roar though a career-spanning set that's relentlessly affable and heartfelt. One prime extra includes author Nick Hornby and a fab take of the Faces' "Debris." The CD, a superb selection of live tracks taken from shows and radio performances, makes this collection even more essential. ****
