The largest and best-equipped of the University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre & Dance theatres in the F. Loren Winship Drama Building. The open, airy venue seats 475 in front of a proscenium stage with a hydraulic orchestra pit and full fly tower. Named for an esteemed Shakespearean director and scholar who spent his later years in Austin, the Payne is home to mainstage UT productions, as well as performances by Dance Repertory Theatre, the department’s movement company, and touring shows booked by Texas Performing Arts.
