Frank Erwin Center
1701 Red River
Since 1977, the distinctive squat cylinder of the Frank C. Erwin Jr. Special Events Center (or, as locals know it, the Drum) has pulled double duty as home to UT’s Longhorn Basketball team and ATX’s biggest indoor venue. Flexible seating arrangements vary from the 7,820 theatre configuration to the in-the-round capacity record of 17,829 set by John Denver. Sadly, its history as a destination for touring acts as big and varied as Springsteen, McCartney, Pavarotti, and Barney the Dinosaur won’t save it: the FEC is penciled for demolition in the coming years to make space for the expansion of the new Dell Medical School.
Features more of a focus on extreme human performances with high-wire antics, BMX tricksters, convoluted contortionists, the human cannonball, bungee skydiving, and much more.
