
WOMEN AND THEIR WORK is presenting a new exhibit of photography by Debra Sugerman entitled "Simple Wonders." Beginning Wed, Sep 1, UT's LEEDS GALLERY presents "The Wilde Controversies: A Journey Through the Life and Legend of Oscar Wilde." IRONWOOD INDUSTRIES began as a design studio and workshop for functional sculpture in iron and wood and has grown into a full-fledged gallery, albeit a small one. MEXIC-ARTE MUSEUM presents a new exhibit entitled "Mario Rendon Lozano: Mexico -- Vitality and Roots." Rendon is from Mexico City, where he also studied art in the late Fifties; he has participated in over 100 group exhibitions and 11 solo exhibitions, and is currently director of the National School of Art in Mexico. His latest collection applies traditional Aztec symbols and contemporary elements to wood, stone, marble, concrete, bronze, and terracotta sculpture, as well as drawings.

Center for American History has "Headlines, Deadlines and By-lines," a selection of newspaper clips from The New York Times that traces the major events of U.S. history in the 20th century. The clips are part of the center's 15 million-piece permanent collection of media archives.
Harry Ransom Center's fourth-floor gallery presents "Authors and Their Pets," showcasing the strong and quirky bond between celebrities and their animal companions -- subjects include D.H. LBJ Museum and Library "David Douglas Duncan: One Life, a Photographic Odyssey" presents the work of one of America's greatest photojournalists. From the pages of Life magazine in the Forties and Fifties to National Geographic, Duncan's photographs have captured some of the most memorable images of the 20th century. Through Jan 2, 2000.
The LBJ Museum also has "Grandma Moses: Painted Memories," an exhibition celebrating the work of America's best-known untrained artist. Ann Mary Robertson Moses had lived a full 78 years before she turned her attention to art as a career, but despite her late start, she captivated the country the way few artists have; her simple heartfelt images of 19th-century rural New England, crafted in yarn and oils, won her national attention and millions of fans. YARD DOG FOLK ART presents "Carved in Stone," a collection of sculptures by Missouri artist Ralph Lanning.
