| Movements Gallery (L-5) 211 E. Sixth, B, 469-1745. Located above Marisco's restaurant on Sixth Street, this art gallery's focus is theatre and other performance art — like their Spoken Word Wednesday nights — but they occasionally book live music. After their current renovation into a coffeehouse is completed early in March, expect more frequent shows from experimental, avant-garde groups such as Govinda, and eclectic singer-songwriters such as Amy Atchley. The Off Center (L-34) 2211-A Hidalgo, 477-3157. This 5,000-sq.-ft. warehouse space just off East Seventh (behind the Short Stop) is primarily an alternative venue for visual and performance artists. Its black cinderblock walls and raw emptiness give the space that low-rent edge that often helps propel experimental work. |
