Margery Segal: El Niño Mon Amour (or sex and weather in Texas) Restless, innovative local choreographer and dancer Margery Segal (Margery Segal/NERVE Dance Company) continues to explore the frontiers of dance with this new work, "a journey through the fiction of longing," as the artist herself puts it. Her companions on this sure-to-take-you-off-the-beaten-path road trip are a trio of collaborators who have contributed to some of Segal's past successes: playwright Ruth Margraff (Centaur Battle of San Jacinto, Wallpaper Psalm), who directs El Niño Mon Amour; composer Jim Filer Coleman (Cop Shoot Cop), who provides the score; and actor and dancer Jason Phelps (Race of the Ark Tattoo, Aria Inertia), who performs the piece with Segal. The work is being premiered in conjunction with Sound & Vision'99, a new performance festival directed by Phelps. Segal's dance will be performed as part of a program with the Walter Thompson Orchestra. (See Performance Listings.) FINAL THREE PERFORMANCES!
Feb 18-20, Thu-Sat, 8pm, at Hyde Park Theatre, 511 W. 43rd. $10 Thu/$12 Fri-Sat. 454-TIXS.

Tapestry Dance Company: The Sign of the Times Austin's most eclectic dance company -- incorporating styles as diverse as jazz, rhythm tap, modern, ballet, and Irish step-dance -- is also arguably its most ebullient, radiating joy and enthusiasm with every step. With The Sign of the Times, the company's second concert of the 1998-99 season, Tapestry looks at signs, signs, everywhere signs, blocking out the scenery, breakin' my mind ... Directors Acia Gray and Dierdre Strand interpret a few of those posted instructions littering our lives and what they might mean in a dance context, e.g., Yield, Right of Way, and Detour to dancers boogieing to Afro-Celtic rhythms; First Class to a couple wanting to waltz to Brave Combo; Quiet Please to a dancer wearing tap shoes. TWO PERFORMANCES ONLY! Feb 19 & 20, Fri & Sat, 8pm, at the Paramount Theatre, 713 Congress. Tickets: $15-$22.50 (half-price for seniors, students, children). 474-9846.
