Near Year's Eve-nts

Community Listings are written by J.C. Shakespeare and edited by Sarah Hepola.

DEADLINE FOR LISTINGS: Mon, Dec 21, for Jan 1 issue. Listings are printed on a space-available basis. Photos which accompany submissions must have info on the back or they won't be used.

Since taking up my post back herein the Community pages several months ago, I've been continually impressed and inspired by the true sense of community that exists in Austin. We are quick to help our neighbors, supportive of diverse causes, and always willing to throw a party for anyone in need. Austin may not be a utopia, but it's a generous, open, caring, pretty darn neat place to be. I humbly pay tribute to the spirit of volunteerism and support shown by Austin's organizations and individual citizens.

And, with that out of the way, why don't we party like it's 1999? As this year draws to a close, the listings for community events are filled up with festive happenings. It's a wonderful time to celebrate the past and anticipate the future. So go nuts, Austin, you deserve it! And don't forget to call for that Safe Ride home. Happy holidays! --J.C. Shakespeare
