CENTRAL TEXAS' OWN STEAM TRAIN will make a grand entrance into downtown Austin this weekend, not far from where the Capital City first heard the whistle of a railroad engine more than 125 years ago. The Austin & Texas Central Railroad's restored steam locomotive and vintage passenger cars, that has operated in regular excursion service in the nearby Hill Country for the last five years, will now be named the "River City Flyer." The Flyer will focus first on education, with a planned program of steam-train trips for Austin-area school children. The railroad will also offer custom-designed charter trips for groups, corporations, and convention visitors, as well as a schedule of short public excursions.
