ECO-FAIR TEXAS 1997, the largest and longest-running conference and trade show devoted to encouraging farming, ranching, landscaping, and gardening practices that are economically and ecologically sound, will be held at Palmer Auditorium, S. AN ETHNIC AFFAIR, an event for the entire family, will be held on the Concordia University campus, 3400 N. I-35. The fair is a celebration of multi-cultural diversity, and brings an awareness of the variety of cultures in the Austin area. Sat, Jan 25, 10am-4pm. 255-4150.

PROJECT TRANSITIONS' VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION will be held at the Austin State Hospital, 4110 Guadalupe. PT needs volunteers for all three of its programs: Top Drawer Thrift Shop, Doug's House (Central Texas' only AIDS hospice); Roosevelt Gardens (an affordable and supportive living community for individuals and families living with AIDS). AUSTIN SIERRA CLUB offers a variety of events and classes every week. An Austin Sierra Club Bike Ride will be held Sat, Jan 25 (458-4518 or 249-1976). The Austin Sierra Club Running/Walking Group meets Sundays, 9am, at Austin High School (445-6223).

A VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION SESSION will be held at Youth Options (formerly Middle Earth), at 3816 S. First St. Youth Options, Inc. is a non-profit organization serving youth and families in Austin with support and shelter. They need GED tutors, mentors for shelter residents and at-risk youth, street outreach assistants, case management helpers, HIV peer educators, and PR, fundraising, and general administrative assistants.
