THE UT DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE AND DANCE is offering creative drama classes for children in grades 1-8 at the Winship Drama Building, located northwest of Memorial Stadium on 23rd & San Jacinto. Classes will be offered in storytelling, puppetry, and improvisation. Cost for a six-week session is $35, and pre-registration is required. A POSTER CONTEST, titled "How I Live With Managed Asthma, is being sponsored by the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. The contest is open to students age 5-9, 10-13 and 14-17. Posters must illustrate how each child successfully manages asthma in his or her everyday life. Any illustrative medium (such as paint, markers, crayons, or colored pencils) may be used, but all entries must be on an 11" x 17" paper and include an entry form. Deadline is Jan 31. 414/272-6071.
DEVELOPMENT CLASSES FOR GIRLS age 9-14 are currently being offered at the Austin Museum of Art, Laguna Gloria, 3809 W. 35th. Three classes will be offered during the spring of 1997, including Computer Girls (two sessions) and Girls Explore with Photos and Paint. Created by therapist and photographer Mary Moore, the classes help build confidence and self-image during this crucial time in the girls' development. 458-8191, ext. 233.

THE AUSTIN NATURE & SCIENCE CENTER, located in Zilker Park, provides exhibits and educational programs for children of all ages. Free. Hours are Mon-Sat, 9am-5pm; Sun, noon-5pm. The center is a variety of classes and workshops for both children and families throughout January and February. PIONEER FARM, 11418 Sprinkle Cut Off Rd., shows how pioneers settled and farmed the land. Visitors can see farm animals, take part in daily chores, and tour historic homes and barns. AUSTIN CHILDREN'S MUSEUM "Make It Move" features a child-size crane and excavator, spinning tops, levers, pulleys, gears, and many interactive puzzles. Visitors may also make a ball move through a "gravity track" they build themselves, and play with interactive kinetic sculptures. Up through Jan 26. Admission is free every Wednesday, 5-8pm.
