In response to a column by Austin American-Statesman writer Jane Greig complaining about public displays of female toplessness (P-DOFTs?) in Austin, Critical Tits -- a group of breast-baring locals -- plan to meet at 6pm on the hill near Barton Springs this Friday, Aug. 2. Men interested in joining the protest will be required to don bikini tops, "to add that extra special 'huh?' to the action"; prospective women participants are encouraged to bring their own tops to share with supportive fellows, and everyone is discouraged from bringing cameras. In her Sunday, July 28 column, Greig apologized to new Austinites -- particularly those with children -- who may already have been exposed to local nipples, and encouraged readers opposed to Austin's law legalizing female toplessness to call the City Council and lobby to have it changed. "Without an ordinance to guide the Austin Police Department," Greig wrote, "expect more brouhahas like the one over Mardi Gras on Sixth Street when police considered applying the public disturbance law to breast flashers but decided not to after getting legal advice." -- L.A.
