Burnet County farmers Gary and Sara Rowland often participate in local farmer's markets, where their certified organic produce and Sara's homemade jams and jellies are always in demand. They also offer subscription shares for a season that runs from April through November for $25 per share. They offer custom drop-off for five or more subscriptions.

Milberg Farm

Tim Miller operates a certified organic dryland farm near Kyle where he's won regional awards for his water conservation techniques. Miller offers subscriptions shares for seasonally available produce, which he will deliver in the Kyle and Manchaca area. When crop abundance permits, he also sells at the Westlake Farmer's Market.

Oasis Gardens Community Farm

This certified organic-farm cooperative on Austin's far east side offers weekly subscription shares for $30 plus five hours of labor per share. Shareholders commit to five hours of farm work and receive good exercise and radiantly healthy produce in the bargain. The workday is Sunday from 1-4pm. A share will feed two to three people.

Dave Pitre's organic produce is so popular there's a waiting list to purchase subscriptions to his Manor-area farm. Shares cost $20 per share for a season that runs May through August and "Best of Austin"-award-winning home delivery is available. The farmers request you use e-mail to put your name on their waiting list.

Tierra Antigua Farm

Both the Tierra Antigua farmstand and subscription share operation re-opened in October. Out of the 10 shares available for the fall season, six are already confirmed at press time, so sign up quickly. The cost is $20 per share, and it's possible to sign up on a weekly basis or for the whole season. Tierra Antigua is organic in practice but not certified as yet. Shareholders are encouraged to attend a potluck at the farm on October 27.
