Before Art, Kate Heyhoe's First Act

Heyhoe first made a splash as a pioneering online food writer

Before Art, Kate Heyhoe's First Act

First and foremost, Heyhoe is a food writer, and one of the pioneers of online food writing. She and husband Thomas Way founded the first cooking website on the Internet, the electronic Gourmet Guide, in 1994, partnered with America Online in 1995, and launched the Global Gourmet in 1996. (Gourmet Guide merged into the Global Gourmet in 1998.) Heyhoe is still the editor of the online journal ("I hate the word blog," she says); she's also the author of eight books on food and wine, including the James Beard Award finalist Great Bar Food at Home. Her latest online endeavor, CaffeineAndYou.com, was the result of three years of research for her ninth book, Caffeine Basics, which she published online.
