Fun Fun Fun Fest Preview: Twin Sister

Twin Sister
Fri., 9pm, Yellow stage
Riding two EPs and 2011 long-player In Heaven, Twin Sister distances itself from a mob of contemporary dream pop outfits. Enough so that producer Scoop DeVille sampled the Long Island quintet's hazy "Meet the Frownies" in breakout Kendrick Lamar's "The Recipe." When guitarist Eric Cardona phones from Manhattan, his 23rd birthday and girlfriend are witnessing the consumption of his first ever martini.
"My first two years of legal drinking I spent on wine coolers and spritzers," admits Cardona. "I think it's time to graduate."
Fun Fun Fun Fest marks the beginning of a West Coast swing, but Twin Sister's eager to load into the studio and hash out its latest crop of songs – not only the largest yield, but also the most cohesive.
"It might be self-titled, but that's a big responsibility," says Cardona. "If you're self-titling a record it's saying, 'This is us.'
"That's a big statement. We're definitely closing in on an identity. Each time we record or practice, we're moving toward knowing exactly what we want and having that work between five people."
