Liquor of the Week:

A perfect peach of a vodka from Enchanted Rock

I've said it before; I'm not a big fan of fruit-flavored liquors. Everything changed when I tasted Deep Eddy's Ruby Red Grapefruit flavored vodka last year. Those prodigies created a drink that literally tasted like you bit right into the fruit, and now another Texas distiller has accomplished the same feat with peaches

The Deep Eddy product was also as smooth as silk stockings, as aromatic as a fresh picked fruit from the Rio Grande Valley, and so easy to fashion into a cocktail that all that is required is a hot Texas day and a cold glass of club soda. It was so good, I didn't think anyone would ever match it.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Apparently there's some distilling talent in San Antonio, too. Rebecca Creek Distillery decided to become a major buyer of Hill Country peaches and, lo and behold, Texas now has two world-class fruit vodkas. How good is this Enchanted Rock Peach flavored vodka? It's low in alcohol (70 proof) so it is smooth, and they have created a perfect representation of the seductive aromas of our peaches. Plus, just like the deep Eddy Ruby Red is perfect with club soda, the Enchanted Rock Peach vodka is equally perfect with Sprite (preferably Zero). While I can't take credit for that particular cocktail (thank local country songwriter Thom Shepherd), at least I can take credit for bringing it to your attention. Enchanted Rock Peach vodka is available at better liquor stores for about $18. Enjoy!
