Kickstart Your Weekend With Nonprofit Warmth
Because if we can't be all warm and fuzzy this time of year, when can we?
You'll recall the name Lights. Camera. Help. from our previous coverage of the cause-driven film festival. But while previously, you could only support the projects by watching the films and maybe paying a little more attention to the causes they highlighted, now you can become a backer of the films themselves.
The Reel Change Film Frenzy will set 10 filmmaking teams to work on 10 separate films over the course of 10 days (Feb. 15-24, 2014) about 10 Central Texas nonprofits – such fan favorites as the Umlauf Sculpture Garden as well as heartwarming (albeit lesser-known) causes like Drive a Senior and Pug Rescue of Austin [editor's note: We typo'd the latter as Rescute in our first draft. Total Freudian slip.] – all operating for less than $2,000,000 a year.
After the films are done, sure, they'll screen at the Alamo Drafthouse, but they'll also be made available to the featured organizations for advertising and promotions that they might not have otherwise been able to afford.
But before the films are done, the filmmaking teams need just a little help getting their costs covered, which is where this crowdfunding campaign comes in. Ideally, the organizers are hoping to raise $10,000 (a grand per team), but they'll get to keep every penny they've earned regardless of whether they hit that goal.
Check out the pitch video below, or go straight to the Indiegogo campaign to take a look at the rewards for backers.
Kickstart Your Weekend is a series intended to showcase Texas film and tech projects that are crowdfunding their way to a goal, be it distribution, a prototype, or production costs. If you have a project that we should know about, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
